Sauder Schelkopf is investigating potential legal claims on behalf of students affected by the March 8, 2025, SAT exam glitch, which caused tests to automatically submit before students had completed them. A malfunction in the College Board’s digital testing platform disrupted exams for thousands, leaving many with limited and potentially unfair options.
Incident Overview
On test day, a technical failure in the SAT’s Bluebook application caused tests to auto-submit at 11:00 a.m. local time, regardless of whether students had finished. This disproportionately impacted students who started later in the testing window, those with extended-time accommodations, and students forced to restart their devices mid-exam. Many lost time on the math section, while others faced interruptions in the verbal portion.
College Board’s Response
The College Board acknowledged the issue and stated that it has been resolved for future tests. Affected students were given the following options:
- Cancel their March 8 scores—No action required for cancellation.
- Keep their scores—If students reached the final “Congratulations” screen, they could retain their scores, but they must contact Customer Service by March 20 via www.sat.org/inquiry or by phone.
- Take a March 22 makeup test—Only available if students canceled their March 8 scores.
In addition, all impacted students will receive a full refund for their March 8 registration fees, along with a voucher for a free future SAT registration. However, students who choose to keep their March 8 scores will not be eligible for the March 22 makeup exam.

Students paid for a properly administered test but did not receive one, and the lack of clear guidance has placed undue stress on families. Those affected may be eligible to take legal action, particularly if they suffered academic or financial harm.
