March 3, 2025 – A class action lawsuit has been filed against ProctorU, Inc., doing business as Meazure Learning, over its administration of the February 2025 California Bar Examination. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that Meazure Learning’s software suffered severe technical failures that disrupted the exam for thousands of test-takers.
According to the complaint, the software—used for remote proctoring—was plagued by crashes, login failures, and glitches that prevented test-takers from copying and pasting within the exam, among other issues. The lawsuit alleges that these failures caused significant harm, including financial loss, emotional distress, and professional setbacks for individuals seeking bar admission.
The plaintiff contends that Meazure Learning and the California Bar were aware of the software’s shortcomings before the exam but failed to take corrective action. The complaint further alleges that the software issues were evident during a mock exam in January 2025, yet Measure Learning assured test-takers that problems would be resolved before the actual exam—assurances that the plaintiff alleges were proved false.
“Taking the bar exam is a pivotal moment in an aspiring attorney’s career, and these software failures created an unfair and stressful testing environment,” said Joe Sauder of Sauder Schelkopf. “Our client and all test-takers deserved a fair exam, free from technical obstacles that could impact their future.”
