Aqua Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against Arkema Inc., a chemical manufacturer in West Chester, alleging that the company contributed to PFAS contamination in the Goose Creek watershed—a source of drinking water for thousands of residents in Media, Rose Valley, Middletown, Upper Providence, Nether Providence, Chester Heights, Aston, Marple, and Ridley Townships.
PFAS, sometimes called “forever chemicals,” are commonly used in industrial processes and can remain in the environment for long periods. Aqua’s testing reportedly found PFAS levels exceeding EPA safety standards in waterways that supply drinking water to local communities. While the company has taken steps to address water quality concerns, it is seeking to hold the manufacturer accountable for the costs of treatment and ongoing monitoring.
