Jan 25, 2025: It has been reported that D.R. Horton, one of the largest homebuilders in the United States, is facing approximately 60 lawsuits in certain counties. The lawsuits allege various construction defects in homes built by the company, including issues with roofs, I-joists, flashing, siding, and weather-resistant barriers, with some defects reportedly causing water intrusion.

Background: The lawsuits involve properties built in multiple counties. The complaints include defects that can lead to water damage and long-term structural issues. D.R. Horton, headquartered in Texas and a major player in residential construction across 36 states, has responded by acknowledging the claims and working with third-party engineers to investigate the issues.

In addition to these new lawsuits, the company has a history of legal challenges regarding construction defects, including a $16.1 million settlement in 2024 for similar claims involving more than 200 homes in Easley.

D.R. Horton’s Position: The company has stated that it will work with homeowners to address valid concerns through their warranty program. D.R. Horton emphasized that it relies on subcontractors for construction and that defects occasionally arise despite their monitoring processes.

Our Firm litigates cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
