Sauder Schelkopf is representing individuals and small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We currently represent individuals seeking a cash refund from airlines, music festivals, third-party rental properties, ski resorts, and cruise ships impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As the coronavirus spreads across the globe some have taken the opportunity to exploit the panic. Sauder Schelkopf is investigating reported wrongdoing related to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. There have been reports of misleading product claims, price gouging, denial of various insurance claims, refusal to provide refunds, failure to take appropriate precautions, and predatory lending.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warning letters to companies for selling fraudulent products with claims to prevent, treat, mitigate, diagnose, or cure coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It has been reported that some events and ticket agencies have either refused to refund the purchase price and/or changed their policy to only offer a credit for future use. Medical professionals have been forced to use their own time off, including sick days, to self-quarantine after coming in contact with COVID-19 while on the job. Many colleges have closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, students have been forced to leave on-campus housing and are also unable to use the balance of their pre-paid meal plans. Not all colleges have confirmed that they will refund this money. Airlines have also been resistant to giving full cash refunds for tickets that could not be used due to global travel restrictions due to the pandemic. Music festivals have also been canceled without the option of a cash refund. COVID-19 has also spread throughout nursing homes that may have failed to take appropriate precautions or followed federal regulations. Small businesses, entitled to loans under the Paycheck Protection Program, have had their loans delayed and/or denied. Retailers who rent space in malls whose doors have been locked to the public are being forced to pay rent for space they cannot access.
