Sauder Schelkopf is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who purchased 2022 or newer Sony Bravia televisions — including models in the X80K / X90K (2022 model year) and X90L series (2023 model year and newer) — related to reports that these televisions can suddenly fail to power on and become completely unresponsive.
Owners report that their relatively new Sony Bravia TVs will not turn on at all, show no standby light, and do not respond to the remote or the physical power button. In many cases, these units were working normally and then, without warning, would no longer start up, even after checking outlets, cables, and attempting Sony’s recommended reset procedures.
Sony’s own support materials acknowledge that “several conditions may cause a power issue that prevents your TV from turning on,” and further state that if the TV still fails to turn on — even after resets, outlet testing, and disconnecting accessories — “your TV is most likely malfunctioning and needs repair or replacement.” Sony+1
Consumers report that when they contact Sony regarding these no-power failures, they are sometimes told the television needs board-level repair or complete replacement, even when the unit is close in time to purchase. In some cases, owners are left paying out-of-pocket for diagnostic or repair costs on premium televisions that are only a year to two years old.
These sudden “dead TV” events can leave consumers without a functioning television and facing expensive main board / power board replacement, or forced to replace the entire set.
