Sauder Schelkopf is investigating reports of repeated system failures involving Mitsubishi Electric ductless heat pump systems, installed in homes across the United States.

Homeowners report multiple compressor and control board failures within just a few years of installation—often following reassurances from Mitsubishi “Diamond Contractors” that the systems would serve as reliable, energy-efficient replacements for traditional heating. In many cases, consumers removed backup heating systems based on those assurances, only to face frequent winter breakdowns, significant repair costs, and inadequate warranty support.

Common Complaints Include:

  • Compressor and control board failures after 1–2 years
  • Poor heating performance in cold climates despite “cold climate” marketing
  • Warranty replacements that fail again without clear cause
  • Contractors advising removal of legacy heating systems
  • High energy costs and reliance on space heaters or wood stoves

At the center of many reports is the MXZ-8C60NA2-U1, often paired with five or more indoor heads, which may be unsuitable for cold-weather regions when used as a sole heat source.

Sauder Schelkopf is evaluating whether consumers nationwide may be entitled to compensation for repair costs, alternative heating expenses, or loss of use due to design defects, misrepresentations, or breaches of warranty.
