Sauder Schelkopf, and co-counsel, filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who purchased Yoga 700 series two-in-one tablet and laptops manufactured by Lenovo. It is alleged that a defect in Yoga 700 series causes the hinges to unexpectedly crack and fail. Once the hinge cracks, it causes the optical cables to come loose, the screen to flicker, and the plastic surrounding the screen—and sometimes the screen itself—to crack, rendering the devices inoperable. It is further alleged that Lenovo has refused to repair the Yoga devices for free and is charging consumers to make the repair. Consumers have complained that these hinges prematurely broke off the screen. Complaints online related to these hinges started as early as 2008.
The case is currently being litigated in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Lenovo moved to dismiss Plaintiffs’ Complaint. On January 4, 2021, the court denied Lenovo’s motion in its entirety. As a result, the parties will conduct discovery and move forward with the case.
“We are pleased with the court’s well-reasoned decision, as all of the claims pled in the Complaint will now proceed into discovery. We are eager to continue pursuing the appropriate relief for the Plaintiffs and putative class,” said Joe Sauder.
