Sauder Schelkopf is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of individuals who used EzriCare Artificial Tears. EzriCare Artificial Tears is an over-the-counter eye drop designed to relieve eye irritation and dryness. Recent epidemiology and laboratory evidence link EzriCare Artificial Tears with eye and other infections.

On January 20, 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged immediate discontinued use of EzriCare Artificial Tears and stated that it is investigating a cluster of 56 isolates from 50 patients in 11 states (CA, CO, CT, FL, NJ, NM, NV, NY, TX, UT, WA). Of this cluster, patients have suffered permanent vision loss, hospitalization, and infection in the bloodstream which caused death.

Eye infections can cause varying levels of vision loss, damage to the retina, scars, and ulcers in the cornea. An infection can also spread to other parts of the body and threaten other organs. Eye infection symptoms include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Eye discharge
  • Eye pain
  • Itching
  • Light sensitivity
  • Swollen eyes and/or surrounding areas
