Allegheny Health Network (AHN) reported a significant data breach that reportedly compromised the personal health information (PHI) of over 293,000 patients. The breach occurred through a cyberattack on an IT vendor, IntraSystems, LLC, which was responsible for managing and securing certain AHN systems. The compromised data may have included sensitive information such as names, Social Security numbers, financial details, health insurance information, medical diagnoses, and prescription data.
Key Allegations:
- AHN failed to protect the PHI of its patients, breaching its duty to safeguard this sensitive information.
- The data breach has caused potential identity theft risks, as Social Security numbers and other personal details were exposed.
- The breach went undetected until November 2024, with AHN only notifying affected individuals in January 2025, leaving many at risk for prolonged periods.
