Sauder Schelkopf is investigating reports from California rideshare passengers and drivers who experienced unexpected insurance coverage issues after an accident. Consumers relying on rideshare-related insurance have reported that the coverage they believed would apply did not function as expected.

Individuals have described concerns such as:

  • Confusion about whether rideshare-related insurance was primary or secondary
  • Difficulty securing payment for medical expenses or wage loss
  • Questions about how Occupational Accident Insurance interacts with Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage
  • Unclear explanations about what benefits were available following an accident involving an uninsured or underinsured driver

We are evaluating whether rideshare users received the level of insurance protection reasonably expected based on policy language, platform disclosures, and California’s requirements for Transportation Network Company (TNC) insurance.

Who May Be Affected

You may be impacted if you:

  • Were a rideshare passenger involved in an accident in California
  • Were a rideshare driver relying on insurance provided through a rideshare platform
  • Encountered delays, denials, or unexpected restrictions when seeking insurance benefits after an accident
