WILMINGTON, DE – August 6, 2025 – Sauder Schelkopf LLC has filed a nationwide class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. and Goodman Company, L.P., alleging that the companies knowingly sold defective Amana brand air conditioning units.

The lawsuit asserts that capacitors within the Amana units contain substandard dielectric oil that prematurely degrades, rendering the units unable to function properly and leading to repeated and costly failures.

The plaintiffs, Aaron Cissell of Oklahoma and Big State Air Conditioning and Heating Company of Texas, bring the case on behalf of two proposed classes:

  • Consumers who purchased Amana air conditioning units for personal use, and

  • HVAC professionals and businesses that serviced and replaced the defective capacitors.

According to the complaint, Daikin and Goodman failed to disclose the known defect and continued to supply faulty replacement parts—despite receiving widespread reports of premature failures.

“These premature failures are not random,” said the attorneys at Sauder Schelkopf. “The complaint alleges they stem from a systemic design and manufacturing flaw that Daikin and Goodman concealed from the public.”

The lawsuit asserts violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act, and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, in addition to claims for fraudulent concealment, negligent misrepresentation, breach of warranty, and unjust enrichment.

Plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages, injunctive relief, and restitution on behalf of affected consumers and HVAC businesses across the country.

If you purchased an Amana air conditioning unit and experienced repeated capacitor failures—or if you are an HVAC provider who incurred costs servicing these units—you may be eligible to join the lawsuit.
