Sauder Schelkopf filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who purchased Samsung clothes dryers.  It is alleged that a manufacturing defect in Samsung clothes dryers causes the dryer drum to crack inside of the unit.  Once the drum cracks it creates a loud noise while the dryer is in use and clothes can get caught on it and become damaged or torn.  An accumulation of lint on the heating element may also increase the risk of fire.  Consumers have complained that the cracked drum occurs within the first few years of use.  Samsung has refused to repair the drum for free and is charging consumers to make the repair.

The case is currently being litigated in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Samsung moved to dismiss Plaintiffs’ First Amended Complaint in its entirety.  On October 27, 2020, the court largely denied Samsung’s motion to dismiss the complaint.  As a result, the parties will conduct discovery and move forward with the case.
