Sauder Schelkopf Investigates Uber’s Mishandling of Sexual Assault Complaints

Berwyn, PA – National plaintiffs’ law firm Sauder Schelkopf LLC is investigating legal claims against Uber Technologies, Inc. following explosive revelations that the company received more than 400,000 reports of sexual misconduct between 2017 and 2022—far exceeding the number publicly disclosed.

A recent New York Times investigation, based on sealed court records and internal Uber documents, alleges that Uber withheld critical safety data, failed to implement proven safety measures, and prioritized corporate growth over rider protection—resulting in thousands of preventable sexual assaults and acts of misconduct during rides.

“This investigation confirms what many survivors have long suspected: Uber knew more than it ever admitted and took calculated steps to protect its bottom line rather than its passengers,” said Joseph Sauder of Sauder Schelkopf. “We are committed to holding the company accountable for its failure to protect vulnerable users—especially women and intoxicated riders targeted during high-risk hours.”

The company’s internal data scientists reportedly developed tools capable of predicting which driver-passenger matches posed safety risks—yet Uber continued to dispatch “high-risk” rides and declined to require basic safeguards such as in-car cameras or female-only driver options. Uber executives also allegedly suppressed reports detailing dangerous trip patterns and refused to adopt certain safety features for fear of legal and political backlash.

More than 3,000 lawsuits have already been filed in state and federal courts by survivors of sexual assault during Uber rides. The first jury trial is scheduled to begin in September in California. Recently, a judge ordered that hundreds of internal Uber documents be unsealed—signaling broader legal exposure for the company.

  • Emotional and psychological harm from the incident and Uber’s response.
