As the New York Times reported, “Bishops and other leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in Pennsylvania covered up child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests over a period of 70 years, persuading victims not to report the abuse and law enforcement not to investigate it, according to a searing report issued by a grand jury ” The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has set up an “Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program” for those who suffered child sexual abuse by clergy. The diocese hired nationally known administrators to handle the fund. The team is currently working on about a dozen other diocese in Pennsylvania and New York. “The goal here is to get the claims paid as fast as possible and that’s what we have been doing and what we intend to do here in Pittsburgh,” Ken Feinberg, an administrator, said.  The deadline to register for is July 31, 2019.
