Summary
Certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles will experience a complete loss of power due to transmission failure.
The law firm of Sauder Schelkopf is investigating a class action lawsuit on behalf of owners and lessees of certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles prone to transmission failure. Specifically, Hyundai and Kia issued recalls at the end of 2022 explaining that the high-pressure electric transmission oil pump in these vehicles may experience a fault which will then trigger warning lamps on the instrument cluster. Once this fault occurs, it will force the vehicle to enter a “fail safe” mode whereby the vehicle will experience a complete loss of power due to disengagement of the transmission.
The recalls provide that owners will be notified of the issue and provided with an inspection and transmission replacement (if necessary) at no cost. Unfortunately, many owners and lessees have experienced this transmission failure, but Hyundai and Kia do not have the parts necessary to repair the vehicles. As a result, owners and lessees are left paying for a vehicle they cannot use while also incurring additional charges, such a fees for rental vehicles and ride sharing apps while they wait for the repairs to be completed. The vehicles impacted by these transmission issues include:
- Hyundai Santa Fe (2021-2022)
- Hyundai Santa Cruz (2022)
- Hyundai Sonata (2021-2022)
- Hyundai Elantra N (2022)
- Hyundai Veloster N (2021-2022)
- Hyundai Kona N (2022)
- Kia K5 (2021-2023)
- Kia Sorento (2021-2022)
